Rep. Major Comments on House Passage of Legislation to Ban Texting-While-Driving on PA Roads - 11/3/2011
Legislation that would ban all drivers in Pennsylvania from texting while behind the wheel has been approved by the PA House. Senate Bill 314 will make reading, writing, or sending electronic text messages when the vehicle is in motion a primary offense. Rep. Sandra Major (R-Susquehanna, Wyoming & Wayne) said lawmakers felt the need to increase safety on Pennsylvania roads due to the growing number of accidents involving drivers and hand held texting devices. Rep. Major's Bill to Update Clean and Green Law Regulations for Bluestone Quarry Operations Signed Into Law - 7/28/2011
Legislation to update Pennsylvania’s Clean and Green Law with respect to land that is used for bluestone quarry operations has recently been signed into law by Gov. Corbett. Bill sponsor Rep. Sandra Major (R-Susquehanna, Wyoming & Wayne) said this change clears up problems experienced by landowners now in the Clean and Green program, who seek to have only a small portion of their property utilized for the mining of Pennsylvania bluestone. Competing state budget plans were debated on the House floor on Thursday, with House Republicans pushing for an amendment to restore the funding for higher education which was completely eliminated in the bill proposed by House Democrats. As the state budget deadline approaches, lawmakers are questioning a proposal that would tap the state’s rainy day fund to pay for new programs supported by the Governor. House Republicans oppose the use of emergency monies in the budget, especially when the state is operating with a surplus from the current fiscal year. Rep. Due to recent increases in drilling activity in the natural gas-producing Marcellus shale deposit, which runs across Pennsylvania, legislation has been introduced to protect the mineral rights of property owners who reside above the shale formation. Rep. Sandy Major (R-Susquehanna, Wayne, Wyoming) said her bill will ensure that property owners will not be taken advantage of by drilling companies as the development of this resource continues.
